Ledger Watch tracks current events in money, AI and ledger technology. Facts come from the cited outlets; each “Ledger echo” is the chronicle’s reading of the news, not a statement of fact. Not financial advice.

Today's AI and money stories, checked against reputable reporting. The links to the book point out where its themes echo the news. They are the chronicle's reading of events and are not claims of fact.

AI & Banking

A BIS study of "circular" money among AI firms is circulating again

What happenedA Bank for International Settlements bulletin was widely shared on X today. It found that from 2021 to 2025, 28.7% of AI firms' investment (by deal value) went into other AI firms, and 55.2% of the money flowing into AI firms came from other AI firms. Nearly half (46.4%) of the value of AI-to-AI deals involved companies that also bought from or sold to each other. The authors say these ties have real business reasons but carry macroeconomic risks and make the sector harder to see into.

NoteThe bulletin was published October 1; it resurfaced today. Its "circular" label means two firms had both an investment and a supplier link at some point, not that money was proven to be recycled.
✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle argues that the last great crisis grew out of balance sheets tied to each other in ways few could see. See 2008: The Great Financial Crisis and the Genesis Block.

Stablecoins & Digital Money

CoinDCX admitted a $16 million stablecoin loss it had first called a false alarm

What happenedIndia's CoinDCX said in a blog post on Sunday that 15.99 million USDT was taken from old deposit wallets it had retired after a July 2025 hack. Some customers kept sending money to those old addresses, and the exchange's automatic process for moving those deposits to safe wallets had failed for a period. CoinDCX says it covered the loss and customer balances were not affected. Earlier in the week its CEO had told users on X that the breach reports sounded like "a false alarm."

✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle argues that a broken key stays broken: Enigma fell because old habits and reused settings kept giving the code away. See The 1940s: Bletchley Park and the Enigma Machine.

Ripple & XRPL

Ripple's Swell conference opens Tuesday in New York, with AI payments and XRPL security on the agenda

What happenedSwell 2026 runs October 27–29 at The Shed in New York and, for the first time, merges Swell with the XRPL Apex developer summit and Ripple's university research conference. Ripple expects about 1,500 attendees and more than 100 speakers, including executives from CME Group, BNY, ICE and State Street. Sessions include "What Happens When AI Moves Money," on payments made by AI agents, and a talk on mathematically proving the XRP Ledger works as designed. Ripple says Swell is where it has historically made its biggest announcements.

NoteThis is a preview. No new announcements have been made yet, and price targets shared on X around the event are speculation.
✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle would read this as banks, exchanges and machines meeting on one bridge ledger. See 2026–2035: The Interoperability Node.

Seen on X

Cloudman176 weighs the scales as Venus slips back into Libra

What happenedThe riddler-style account @Cloudman176 posted that Libra's scales "were once a scorpion's claws," that מאזנים (scales), נצח (endurance) and פסח (Passover) each total 148, and that "Venus re-entered Libra this morning." We checked: all three words do total 148, the stars of Libra were long counted as the Scorpion's claws before the Romans restored the scales, and retrograde Venus crossed back from Scorpio into Libra early on October 25 (about 4 a.m. Eastern). A second post gives Melchizedek (מלכי צדק) as 100 + 194 = 294, which is correct; the story is Genesis 14:18–20, and Tzedek is the Hebrew name for Jupiter, which rose after 1:30 a.m. Eastern that night.

NoteSeen on X, not news. The numbers and sky positions check out; the meaning is the account's own reading.
✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle argues that the scales in the sky and the balance in the ledger are the same image, read at two scales. See The Celestial Ledger.

Seen on X, not included

  • A claim that "official Overledger documentation confirms integration of XRP, XLM and HBAR," via @SMQKEDQG. Quant's Overledger connector docs do list Hedera as self-serve and the XRP Ledger and Stellar as available through a managed project with Quant's team, but this is documentation, not a new announcement or client deployment.
  • Repeated posts that DTCC's tokenization launch will be a "tipping point" and that only DTCC can tokenize $100 trillion "without additional permission," via @SMQKEDQG. DTCC's service and its late-October launch were covered on October 22 and October 23; there was no new DTCC announcement today.
  • Other Cloudman176 posts: tonight's Hunter's Moon (full at 12:12 a.m. Eastern on October 26) paired with a Moon plate from the 1582 Splendor Solis; the word "choice" tracing back to a root meaning "to taste" (correct, from the same root as Latin gustus); and a claim that the pineal gland opens to "cosmic forces" at age 13, which has no scientific support.
  • AI voice-cloning scams that spoof bank caller IDs, Tom Lee's warning that banks without a crypto plan will fall behind, and XRP price-target chatter. These are tips, opinions and speculation rather than events.
