Ledger Watch tracks current events in money, AI and ledger technology. Facts come from the cited outlets; each “Ledger echo” is the chronicle’s reading of the news, not a statement of fact. Not financial advice.
Today's AI and money stories, checked against reputable reporting. The links to the book point out where its themes echo the news. They are the chronicle's reading of events and are not claims of fact.
AI & Banking
Apollo's chief economist says AI has not paid off outside big tech
What happenedIn an October 24 note, Apollo chief economist Torsten Slok wrote that AI has delivered "zero financial payoff" to corporate America outside tech so far. Revenue per worker and profit margins are rising for the seven largest tech companies but are flat for the rest of the S&P 500, and he sees no sign yet of AI lifting productivity growth. He argues mainstream companies are starting to treat AI spending as a cost rather than a source of growth.
NoteThis is one economist's analysis, not official data.
✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle argues that machine intelligence changes the ledger first where the infrastructure is built, and only later reaches the wider economy. See
2035–2044: The Smart Contract Grid.
Stablecoins & Digital Money
HSBC launched RedCoin, its first stablecoin, to 3.3 million PayMe users
What happenedOn October 23 HSBC launched HSBC RedCoin (RCHKD), a Hong Kong dollar stablecoin licensed by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. It is rolling out in stages on the PayMe app, where users can send it to each other and pay at more than 100,000 merchants. HSBC says it will later come to its Hong Kong banking app for buying tokenized investments.
✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle would read this as a note-issuing bank putting its currency onto a digital ledger under a central regulator, the private-issuer path rather than a central-bank coin. See
2020–2026: The Rise of CBDCs.
Ripple & XRPL
Franklin Templeton added about $150 million of tokenized fund shares on the XRP Ledger
What happenedCoinDesk reported that Franklin Templeton issued two batches of about 72.2 million shares of sgBENJI, its tokenized Singapore money market fund, on the XRP Ledger, after two $75 million cash subscriptions were recorded on the ledger. The fund's XRPL balance rose from about 48 million to about 193 million shares, worth roughly $200 million, all in one wallet controlled by the same signers as Franklin's issuing account. The investor has not been disclosed, and Franklin made no statement.
NoteThese figures come from reading the public ledger, not from a Franklin announcement.
Market Infrastructure
Twenty-two companies have now blocked tokenized trading of their shares on OKX and ICE's venue
What happenedReuters reported that Wells Fargo, Arm, Intuit, Cisco, Moderna and Marvell are the latest companies to object to OKXICE, the joint venture of crypto exchange OKX and NYSE owner Intercontinental Exchange, listing tokenized versions of their stock. That brings the total to 22, including Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs. Under the SEC's new innovation exemption, a venue must notify companies first and cannot list their shares if they object. Nasdaq plans its own tokenized stock platform with Kraken's parent next year.
NoteAn objection only blocks this one venue; it does not mean a company opposes all tokenization.

Cloudman176 marks Venus disappearing into the Sun
What happenedThe riddler-style account @Cloudman176 posted that Venus "vanishes into the Sun" tonight, tying it to Inanna's descent and to Esther, "the hidden one," and followed up: "She dies at 0° of the eighth sign. She comes back as the morning star. 5 : 8 : 13." We checked the facts: Venus reached inferior conjunction with the Sun around midnight Eastern time on October 23–24 at about 0.7° Scorpio, the eighth sign, after which it reappears as the morning star. Esther (אסתר) does total 661, and the Talmud (Chullin 139b) links her name to "hester," hiding. The 5, 8 and 13 match Venus's eight-year cycle of five conjunctions and about thirteen orbits.
NoteSeen on X, not news. The astronomy and numbers check out; the meaning is the account's own reading.
✦ Ledger echoThe chronicle argues that the sky keeps the clock the ledger runs on, and the Venus cycle is one of its oldest counters. See
The Cosmic Clockwork of the Ledger.
